Embarking on a two-day escapade from the bustling heart of Sydney to the serene landscapes of Hunter Valley was nothing short of enchanting. In this blog, we tried to unveil a perfect itinerary that seamlessly blends the festive spirit of Hunter Valley Gardens with the rich flavors of its renowned vineyards.
Day 1 – As we left the city behind, the anticipation of a tranquil retreat surrounded by Christmas lights and exquisite vineyards heightened. Covering a scenic 200-kilometer journey, we arrived at Hunter Valley Gardens around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, ready to immerse ourselves in a world of entertainment and shimmering lights.
Hunter Valley Christmas lights and rides are open from 5.30pm – 10.30pm. Tickets can be bought online from Hunter valley gardens website. Link – Christmas Lights Spectacular – Hunter Valley Gardens. Two types of passes are available Day/night pass and Night pass. We bought a Night Pass – Family Pass (2 Adults+2 children) cost around 116$. Christmas lights are open till January 28. If missed, ideal to plan during the long weekend Australian National Day.
Once we arrived, we got excited to see lot of games for all ages, there’s no shortage of entertainment. Families and friends can engage in friendly competitions, creating good memories.


Watching Christmas Lights: As the sun set, Hunter Valley Gardens transformed into a magical wonderland during the annual Christmas Lights Spectacular. The dazzling lights provided the perfect ambiance to kick off our festive getaway. We strolled through themed displays, marveled at illuminated trees, and felt the holiday spirit come alive against the backdrop of our favorite landmarks, the Sydney Opera House and the Taj Mahal.




By 10:30 PM, as the light display concluded, we carried the dazzling images in our minds back to our cozy Airbnb stay at “Tranquillum” in the Huntlee Estate, <Tranquillum> @ Huntlee Estate ~ Hunter Valley – Houses for Rent in North Rothbury, New South Wales, Australia – Airbnb enjoying a comfortable night’s rest, preparing for the adventures of the next day.
Day 2 – Our second day unfolded with an opportunity to dive into the heart of Hunter Valley’s wine culture, exploring vineyards and estates that make this region a haven for wine enthusiasts.
Iron gate Vineyard Estate – A Glimpse into Wine making– Commencing our day at Irongate Vineyard Estate, we gained an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking process. Engaging with passionate staff, we learned about cultivating grapes, the intricacies of fermentation, and the meticulous craftsmanship behind Hunter Valley’s renowned wines.
The Guided Winery tour was booked through telephone with Iron gate Vineyard and Estate Boutique Winery Hunter Valley – Irongate Estate. The tour costed 50$ (Adult-25$ and kids free).


Mt Bright Lookout – Scenic Beauty and Serenity: – After a morning of wine education, we ascended to Mt Bright Lookout for breathtaking panoramic views of the picturesque Hunter Valley. Capturing the beauty of vast vineyards, rolling hills, and serene landscapes, we marveled at the natural wonders complementing Hunter Valley’s viticultural charm.

Audrey Farm- A tranquil retreat- Continued our vineyard exploration with a visit to Audrey Farm Hunter Valley Winery | Vineyard & Wine Tasting | Audrey Wilkinson, a charming estate that offers a more intimate and tranquil setting. Wandered through the vine-covered hills, and indulged in wine tastings, allowing our palate to savor the unique flavors of the region.




Hunter Valley’s unique blend of festive cheer and world-class vineyards make it an ideal destination for a two-day getaway.
