Methi Pulav / Fenugreek Leaves Rice

Methi Pulav is a tasty recipe to include Methi in diet. This rice taste really good without even a little bitterness. This is ideal for Lunch box.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice
  • 2 medium size onion finely chopped
  • 3 medium tomatoes finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 1 cup Methi leaves tightly packed
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water

Spice powders

  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 0.25 tsp turmeric powder
  • 0.75 tsp garam masala powder

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

Preparation 

  1.  Sprinkle salt on the chopped methi leaves and keep aside for 20 minutes. Then rinse the methi leaves under running water. This helps to reduce the bitterness of leaves.
  2.  Cook 1 cup Basmati rice with 2 cup water.

Method

  1.  Heat oil and add cumin seeds. When the cumin seeds splutter, add finely chopped onions. Saute till the onion turns translucent.
  2.  Add finely chopped ginger and garlic. Saute till the raw smell of garlic goes away.
  3.  Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute till the tomatoes turn mushy.
  4. Add all the mentioned spice powders. Saute for 2 minutes.
  5.  Add finely chopped methi leaves and saute well till the leaves wilt.
  6.  Add the cooked rice and salt. Mix well but gently so that the rice grains do not break.
  7.  Serve hot with Papad and Raita / Salad.

Note

  1.  The rice should be cooked dry without any moisture.
