Chutneys using vegetables are one of the easiest way to include any non favourite vegetables into diet. Chayote were usually used in making stir fry / palyas. But I needed to try something different and ended up in this delicious chutney.
Chayote chutney goes well with rice, idli , dosa and chappathi.

Ingredients
- 1 cup chopped chayote
- 1 medium tomato finely chopped
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tbsp Toor dal
- 1 tbsp channa dal
- 4 dry red chilli
- Salt to taste
Method
- Heat oil. Add toor dal, channa dal and red chillies. Fry till it turns golden brown. Remove from the pan and keep it aside.
- Heat oil. Add chayote , tomato and salt. Cook till chayote becomes soft.
- Grind the dal with little water. Then add chayote-tomato mix and grind everything together into a coarse paste.
- Serve it with hot rice, idli, dosa or chappathi.
Notes
- Peel and chop chayote into small cubes so that it gets cooked easily.
- Extra care should be taken while frying dal and red chilli. It should not be browned which may spoil the taste.
