Mirchi ki sabzi

Mirchi ki sabzi is a mildly spiced and tasty side dish for chapati.  This side dish is too common in Rajasthan and Maharashtra. This tastes good as a side dish with rice and dal too.

Ingredients

  • 6 large green chilli / mirchi chopped 
  • 0.5 cup besan / gram flour
  • 2 tbsp coconut grated
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp water

Spice powders

  • 0.25 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp aamchur / dry mango powder
  • 0.5 tsp garam masala

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • pinch of hing / asafoetida

Garnishing Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coriander finely chopped

Preparation

  1.  Cut the green chilli into 1 inch size after removing the seeds.

Method

  1.  Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, hing and turmeric powder. Saute on low flame for a minute
  2.  Add chopped chilli pieces and saute for 3 minutes or till blisters appear.
  3.  Add besan and roast continuously for 5 minutes. Roast till the raw aroma of besan disappears and turns golden.
  4.  Add 2 tbsp coconut , garam masala, amchur powder and salt.
  5.  Saute on low flame till the spices turns aromatic.
  6.  Add water and mix well.
  7.  Cover and simmer for 8 minutes or till sabji gets cooked completely.
  8.  Garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy hot with chapathi.

Notes

  1.  Removing the seeds of the chilli is must. Otherwise it will be too spicy.
  2.  Roast besan well. Or else the raw flavour will remain.
